Investing in People summary

The Commission for Africa has identified that the provision of health and education systems are fundamental to human rights and social justice, yet in many African countries are on the point of collapse. Schools, health clinics, clean water and sanitation are needed urgently to reduce levels of poverty and enable the African people to better sustain themselves, contribute to good governance and support economic growth and development.

Proposed Solutions

• A commitment by the international community to Education for All – providing all girls and boys in sub-Saharan Africa with access to free basic education.
• The elimination of preventable diseases in Africa by rebuilding systems to deliver public health services.
• A scaling up of the services needed to deal with the catastrophe of HIV and AIDS and providing protection and support for orphans and vulnerable children.
